Marissa Biggs brings the first mobile dog grooming service to Slave Lake

Meet Marissa Biggs, the proud owner of Snip' N Dash, Slave Lake’s very first and only mobile dog grooming business. Launched on May 1, 2025, Snip N’ Dash has already been making waves all across town and in surrounding communities.

A certified dog groomer, Marissa trained in Edmonton for four months to earn her credentials. As a proud dog mom to three pups of her own, it’s no surprise that her passion for animals led her to create a business that’s close to her heart.

Marissa wanted to do something more meaningful and work for herself. Biggs set out to create a service that would bring comfort and convenience directly to the doorsteps of busy pet owners. With that, Snip ‘n Dash was born, a fully equipped mobile grooming van offering bathing, haircutting, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and de-shedding services for dogs of all breeds and sizes. All Marissa needs is your dog, and access to a simple outlet to plug in her tools. She’ll take care of the rest!

Turning a Dream into Reality with Community Futures

When asked how she got started, Marissa shared that it was a member of the community who first recommended she reach out to Community Futures Lesser Slave Lake for support.

Once she was confident in her business idea, she booked an appointment with our Business Analyst, Robin-Lee Vance. Through our small business loan program, Marissa was able to finance the purchase of her grooming van and cover key startup costs like supplies, products, and equipment. Her van came fully outfitted with everything she needed, from a bathtub to a blow dryer; allowing her to hit the road with confidence.

One of the biggest challenges she faced was securing funding.

I went to the banks first, but they only offered loans to already-established businesses,” she said. “Community Futures was the only one who believed in my startup and gave me the support I needed.

A Positive Response from the Community

Just one month in, Snip'N Dash has already seen tremendous support from local pet owners. The convenience, care, and comfort Marissa offers is especially ideal for busy households, senior dogs, and anyone who prefers a stress-free grooming experience at home.

As Marissa puts it, “If you have a business dream, don’t hesitate, reach out to Community Futures and just start from there.
