Community Futures is proud to feature young entrepreneur Brookelyn Albert, a Grade 9 student at Roland Michener Secondary School who will be entering Grade 10 this September. At a young age, Brookelyn is already showing strong work ethic, initiative, and a clear interest in business.
From a First Business to Interior Detailing
Brookelyn has always been interested in entrepreneurship. In Grades 5 and 6, she started her first small business trapping leeches with her dad before school and selling them to people for fishing.
“That was my first introduction to business and being self-employed,” Brookelyn shared. “I don’t mind working hard.”
Today, Brookelyn keeps a busy schedule. Along with running SL Interior Detailing, she also works as a pharmacy assistant and a gymnastics coach, while continuing to participate in sports.
SL Interior Detailing began as an idea from Brookelyn’s brother. When he moved on to another job, Brookelyn was still looking for summer work and decided to take the opportunity forward herself.
Her first vehicle clean took place in May 2026. While she was excited, she also admitted to feeling nervous. To prepare, she practiced on her parents’ vehicles and made sure she was using high-quality cleaning products from trusted suppliers.
Since starting, Brookelyn has learned valuable skills in time management, customer service, and communication.
What SL Interior Detailing Offers
SL Interior Detailing focuses on thorough interior vehicle cleaning. Services include a walk-through inspection with the vehicle owner, trash and clutter removal, organizing vehicle contents into clear bags, detailed interior cleaning, surface cleaning, dashboard and console cleaning, pet hair removal, and shampooing. The business does not currently offer exterior washes.
“It takes a lot longer than I originally thought it would,” Brookelyn said, “but it’s worth it when I see a finished vehicle.”
Balancing school, work, sports, and a business has been one of Brookelyn’s biggest learning experiences. She and her mom sit down about two weeks before the start of each month to review her schedule, look at commitments, and decide which days are available for bookings. School remains a priority, and they also make sure to include downtime.
“It’s been very good to learn how to accommodate all aspects of my life and make sure that it’s well balanced,” she said.
Brookelyn is currently fully booked for June, with more availability opening up in the summer once exams are finished.
Words of Advice for Other Young Entrepreneurs
When asked what advice she would give to other young people thinking about starting a side hustle or small business, Brookelyn’s answer was simple:
“Do it! The worst that can happen is that you will learn from it. But my experience is that in Slave Lake people are eager to support you.”
Brookelyn’s story is a great reminder that entrepreneurship can start at any age. With hard work, family support, and community encouragement, young people can gain real-world skills, build confidence, and create opportunities for themselves right here in our region.
Community Futures Lesser Slave Lake Region is proud to celebrate young entrepreneurs like Brookelyn who are taking initiative, learning by doing, and contributing to the local business community.
