Meet Rose Flores-Cantada, the owner of a Iconic Beauty lash and aesthetics studio right here in Slave Lake. Iconic Beauty offers a range of beauty services including lash extensions (Classic, Light Volume, and Volume Sets), lash lifts & tints , brow lamination & tint, stunning permanent makeup, rejuvenating body treatments, and waxing services.

Her journey into the beauty industry started with something simple: getting her lashes done by a close friend.

"My journey as lash artist started when a close friend of mine inspired me. I've been getting lashes done by her since she started her business, and her work always made me feel amazing. When COVID hit, she encouraged me to explore my own passion and that is when I decided to take the leap."

At first, she didn’t plan to start a business. She just loved how lashes made her feel and wanted to help others feel that same confidence. What began as a personal interest has now grown into a full-service lash and aesthetics studio. She is grateful for the opportunity to empower her clients to look and feel their best every day.

One of the biggest challenges she faced was building her client base in a small town. But with help from the team at Cast + Court, support from friends and family, and positive word-of-mouth, her business slowly grew.

It wasn’t easy, but I kept going. My clients really helped spread the word, I’ve been able to establish a loyal and ongoing client base and that made a huge difference," she shares.

How Community Futures Helped

When she was ready to move into a new space, she needed help buying equipment and setting up. That’s when she connected with Community Futures.

"The Community Futures Capital Growth Initiative (CGI) loan helped me buy new equipment, furniture, new signage, new products and some extra furniture," she explains. "The loan was a big support when I was opening my new location. It helped me purchase the equipment I needed and get my new services and products ready so I can better serve my clients and continue growing my business."

Advice for Future Entrepreneurs

Her advice to others thinking of starting their own beauty business?

"My advice for fellow entrepreneurs in the aesthetics industry is to believe in yourself and pursue what you love. It can be intimidating, yes, but that's all part of the journey. If you're unsure how to get started, don't hesitate to reach out to other aestheticians, we're more than happy to share our experiences. Remember we're stronger when we support each other. "

"Community Futures can be a great support system when starting or expanding your business. They helped me significantly by providing a loan that allowed me to open my new location, purchase equipment, new signage, new products, and prepare my services. Their support made a real difference in turning my vision into reality. If you're looking for guidance and resources to help grow your business, I highly encourage you to reach out to Community Futures they can help you achieve your goals too" she says.
